On the eighth day of Christmas, my True Love gave to me... eight Maids-A-Milking!
I have to say this made me think about faithful cows delivering the goods day in and day out despite, being pulled on and hassled all day. I wonder if they're ever tempted to imagine a different life... running free with no responsibilities, or if they look forward to giving milk with joy, knowing they make a difference to humanity! :o)
Which of course made me think about the times when we may well feel hassled and pulled on in different directions, as partners and / or as parents... and perhaps get tempted to imagine a different life too.
But you know what they say about the grass being greener on the other side... ... it still has to be mowed, and it will only stay green if someone tends to its needs, staying faithful despite the weather and the season. It's the decision, the follow through of commitment that keeps all of life green and growing - relationships, fitness...and grass. Don't trust your feelings especially in the moment of frustration and overwhelm. Love is a decision. Once you've made it, follow through. If you can't do that in this relationship chances are you won't do it in others either. Every relationship has its moments of frustration and challenge. So, our relationship advice for day eight is to remain faithful and give your full commitment regardless of how you feel in the moment. That's how you get what matters most instead of what seems to matter now.
So, we're up to verse 8 of our ever growing song!
